They Aren't Entirely Wrong
Students at my school played Faculty Feud tonight - money raised is going to buy books for kids, and who doesn't like that?! It was students vs. faculty, answers having been gathered from a survey of slightly more than 100 students previously. Students won 400andsomethingridiculous to 0.
Anyway!
One of the questions asked was, "What do you think professors do on the weekends?" There were, of course, the usual answers: grade papers, sleep, drink, etc. At one point, the student who was answering was having trouble thinking of something to say, shrugged, and said, "Think up ways to make us miserable?"
And it was, indeed, on the board: "Plot ways to ruin students' lives."
We all laughed and laughed and maybe you had to be there, but it was a lot of fun, and I love my school.
Pretty picture time! Well, picture time, anyway. I can't decide if I like this one or not. Something just seems off. Ah, well.

- Marathon Pharmaceuticals to Charge $89,000 for Muscular Dystrophy Drug "Marathon Pharmaceuticals LLC says it will charge $89,000 annually in the U.S. for a decades-old steroidal drug that was approved for U.S. sale for the first time on Thursday, a price that is as much as 70 times higher than drug’s price overseas....Christine McSherry of Pembroke, Mass., pays about $1,600 annually to buy deflazacort from the U.K. pharmacy for her son, Jett, she said. But the pharmacy recently told customers it would stop shipping the drug to the U.S. after Marathon received FDA approval for its version."" This right here is why it's a bad idea to leave health care to corporate interests.

- First Tennessee, now: Georgia bill would allow 'scarlet letter' marking of non-citizen driver's licenses This serves no good purpose whatsoever - there is no legal reason to single out non-citizen residents from citizens.
- Maybe ethics isn't as endangered as I thought. At least, the OGE is getting more attention than it can handle: Government Ethics Office Website Crashes Under Too Much Traffic — Again So, while there's a lot of unethical (or at least questionable) stuff going on, people seem very concerned.
- Then again: National security adviser Flynn discussed sanctions with Russian envoy before Trump took office, despite denials, officials say "Flynn’s communications with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak were interpreted by some senior U.S. officials as an inappropriate and potentially illegal signal to the Kremlin that it could expect a reprieve from sanctions that were being imposed by the Obama administration in late December to punish Russia for its alleged interference in the 2016 election."
- Speaking of shady ethics: Tom Price Is Confirmed as Health Secretary "'Buying and selling health care stocks as a member of Congress while you're voting and helping those companies, that's bad enough,' said Senator Sherrod Brown, Democrat of Ohio. 'But what he wants to do to maybe the greatest program in American history, Medicare, is much, much worse.'...As chairman of the House Budget Committee, Mr. Price supported proposals to shift Medicare away from its open-ended commitment to pay for medical services and toward a fixed government contribution for each beneficiary, which could be used for either private insurance or traditional Medicare. Such proposals could increase costs for some people." Price is also anti-ACA. Basically, he's a firm believer in healthcare for the wealthy.
- It hurts so much, guys: Half of Trump voters think the Bowling Green Massacre is real. Blame Kellyanne Conway, not Facebook.
- Trump Must Not Ignore Terror From The Radical Right
- ‘See You In Court,’ Trump Says. OK, Now What? As you might expect, it's complicated - but will probably end up at the Supreme Court, sooner or later.
- Or Trump might just change the wording a little and try again? Trump says he is considering 'brand new' immigration order after setback "He said a new order would probably change 'very little' from the first, according to the Associated Press."
- If you thought Trump's travel ban was bad, what he has planned next for American Muslims could be devastating "The Terror Designation bill marks the fifth consecutive year lawmakers have introduced legislation to blacklist the Muslim Brotherhood, but there’s a reason why it’s never previously been passed: US foreign policy and counter-terror experts generally do not view the group as a threat to US national security. A British Government investigation last year also determined that, while the Muslim Brotherhood had some ties to extremism, it was not a terrorist group. Neither are its far-flung US affiliates."
- So why would this attempt be more likely? If you're cynical (who, me?), you could think it might have something to do with Breitbart News' constant and inaccurate harping, as well as how "Mr. Trump has already come under pressure from Arab allies eager for such a designation".
- Federal agents conduct sweeping immigration enforcement raids in at least 6 states
- Trump sued over '1-in-2-out' regulations order
- You know how occasionally a brand will change the flavor or quality of a product and you hate it, but you stick with it until you get used to it? I really, really hope that isn't happening here: Trump is changing the presidency more than the presidency is changing Trump
Moore says the African American Student Advocates had a previously scheduled meeting Thursday night at which Harris was to speak about his art work at the administrative offices. Now, he will be talking about the fact it was taken down, and retrieving the paintings to bring them home.
“My artwork expresses the real visceral outrage that a lot of African Americans have about the violence we’re still subjected to in the 21st century,” Harris says. “For centuries, we have been told not to speak out about it. You don’t have to like it. It’s not only my history. This is American history.”
