- The new tool colleges are using in admissions decisions: big data It seems like a cool idea, to get a sense of who the student is as a person, but I can think of a few big problems with it. For one, it's going to penalize those who value their privacy. For another, it's going to penalize those who made stupid mistakes as kids, but who aren't bad people and could be real assets to their schools and future professions. Lastly, it's going to seriously penalize those who have restricted (or no) access to the Internet.
