Remember, Remember...

Er...remember what?

That would be Guy Fawkes and the Gunpowder Plot.



Of course, "Guy Fawkes" is more recognizable to me and many others as the "face" of V. V for Vendetta by Alan Moore is an awesome comic, and the movie was pretty darn good, too.

The Guy Fawkes mask, which played a huge role in V for Vendetta was later adopted by Anonymous, becoming "the face of post-modern protest."

So, at this point, we remember less the man who tried to blow up Parliament. Instead, we hold onto the idea that governments are answerable to the people, and occasionally we have to be very, very loud. I think Moore summed up the entire situation very nicely in the comic:
