Happy Free Comic Book Day!
That's right, it's Free Comic Book Day!*
Check out this year's comics and find a participating store near you! (I'm posting this early today, so you have a better chance of getting out there and getting comics! YOU'RE WELCOME!)
*Today is also World Naked Gardening Day (be warned - that link does have pictures), but I'm...I'm not celebrating that one. Mosquitoes, man. Mosquitoes.

- Libraries, Books, Writers, & Suchlike
- Ranganathan and the Five Blind Librarians This is not about my cat. "I've heard it told that after formulating his famous 'Five Laws of Library Science', the great Indian librarian S. R Ranganathan set about thinking about privacy. Here's what I remember of the tale." A good reminder for librarians everywhere. We may not be explicitly sharing information, but we should be careful that we are not accidentally letting some slip through.
- Novel Suspense: Alfred Hitchcock's 7 Best Adaptations
- There Will Be a Show About Green Eggs and Ham I'll be frank with you - I'm not sure I like this, Sam-I-Am...I'm really unsure how this will work. But I'm going to watch it, of course. It's important to try new things, after all.
- Net & Tech
- Tell Congress: Don’t reauthorize the PATRIOT Act! "We can’t let Congress effectively reauthorize the PATRIOT Act for an additional four years, legalize currently illegal surveillance activities, and grant immunity to corporations that collaborate to violate privacy rights."
- We Can't Let John Deere Destroy the Very Idea of Ownership "In a particularly spectacular display of corporate delusion, John Deere—the world's largest agricultural machinery maker —told the Copyright Office that farmers don't own their tractors. Because computer code snakes through the DNA of modern tractors, farmers receive 'an implied license for the life of the vehicle to operate the vehicle.' It's John Deere's tractor, folks. You're just driving it....If you bought it, you should own it—simple as that. It's time corporate lawyers left the bullshit to the farmers, who actually need it." While this particular case is very important to farmers, of course, the underlying problem is important to us all - especially as software becomes more integrated into everything from cars to clothing to coffeemakers!
