- Go Fund a Librarian "It's hard to be surprised anymore about the sorry state of public education in much of America, but, nevertheless, this story surprised me. A public elementary school in Arizona is trying to save the job of the school librarian, or media specialist, or whatever it is they're called these days. They're doing it with a 'Go Fund Me' campaign, which is a sorry commentary on contemporary public education."

- 'Game of Thrones' books editor slams HBO fantasy series' 'divergences' from George R.R. Martin's novels While I have to emphasize that the books are better - so very, very much better - I don't have a problem with the show going off the rails, so to speak. It's a different medium, and might as well be a different entity entirely. And that's great. Think about Frankenstein, for instance. The book is awesome; the 1931 movie, while entirely different, is also awesome. Same with GoT - they're different, yes, but they're both great.
- Chipotle launches essay contest for cups and $20K college scholarships "From now through May 31, middle- and high-school students ages 13 to 18 are invited to submit their original short essays 'about a time when food created a memory' to Cultivating Thought. Stories can be up to 1,700 words."

It explains all the slimy, mushy, oozy, scaly, and stinky gross (yet scientific) things that occur everyday in the human body. Kids love the 'gross stuff' and parents like the scientific explanations!"

- The Myth Of The Absent Black Father "Although black fathers are more likely to live separately from their children — the statistic that's usually trotted out to prove the parenting 'crisis' — many of them remain just as involved in their kids' lives....And there's compelling evidence that number of black dads living apart from their kids stems from structural systems of inequality and poverty, not the unfounded assumption that African-American men somehow place less value on parenting."
